Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
As the strategic leader for college-wide student success initiatives and programs, the Senior Director, Holistic Student Support Initiatives & Columbus Promise is responsible for creating an environment that emphasizes evidence-based student support strategies related to specialized programming (including grants and other college initiatives) with specific attention to equity in outcomes based on proven best practice and high-impact retention strategies for community colleges. The Senior Director maintains deep faculty-advisor relationships; ensures professional development; promotes student transfer/placement, and fosters a culture of collaboration and care for students and colleagues.

The Senior Director, Holistic Student Support Initiatives & Columbus Promise, safeguards the college’s academic integrity and leads innovations in programs and methods of service delivery that respond promptly to a rapidly changing environment. Under the direction of the AVP for Holistic Student Experience, the Senior Director provides leadership, vision, direction, and advocacy for a comprehensive array of innovative and holistic support initiatives, which foster credential completion and transfer/placement by focusing on the student experience and each student’s success in achieving their academic, career and financial goals. The Senior Director also provides primary leadership for the Columbus Promise program and team. The Senior Director analyzes scalable high-impact practices and, under the direction of the AVP for Holistic Student Support, makes recommendations and provides appropriate training for implementation across all holistic student support units.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Student Success Initiatives Leadership and Direction

Under the direction of the AVP for Holistic Student Experience, collaborates in the design, planning, development, and implementation of student-responsive, assessment-driven support strategies that facilitate student success, persistence, graduation, and transfer or career transition/placement. Ensures strategic integration of priorities within the department and continuously reviews strategies for improvement opportunities.

In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, leads the development, implementation, and execution of high-impact community college inclusive student support practices to improve student academic success, career alignment, persistence, and completion. Benchmarks and provides feedback to leadership with the goal of integrating established high-impact practices in advising, career, academic, and holistic support.

Supports college-wide initiatives and innovations in programs and delivery methods that respond promptly to a rapidly changing environment. Collaborates with Enrollment Management, especially recruiting and new student programs, to ensure a seamless entry and onboarding process for all new students and fully implement an integrated system of holistic support from entry through completion and transfer/placement.

Daily Operations of Columbus Promise and
Operational Leadership of Student Success Initiatives

Establishes standards and provides daily oversight of the Columbus Promise program. Ensures appropriate staffing at all service points, assigns projects and delegates tasks, creates work schedules, provides direction, resolves work problems, communicates job expectations, trains employees, and develops professional growth and development opportunities. Carries out, explains, interprets, and enforces policy and recommends changes for policies that may impede student success.

Provides supervision and direction for specific programs and services established to address the disproportionality of access and success of students. Provides direct service to students when appropriate and necessary.

Conducts annual employee evaluations and recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnel actions. Approves leave requests and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Manages the department's employee recruitment, selection, and onboarding process in partnership with Human Resources. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval and in collaboration with Human Resources. Establishes and maintains a standard of excellent service to students, faculty, and internal customers.

Designs and implements effective and ongoing professional development programs for staff to ensure outstanding and consistent student support. Leads the development of scalable, high-impact practices. Leads and manages staff to achieve institutional priorities.

Supports administration of the department budget in collaboration with the other Senior Directors, AVP, and Business Services. Estimates expenses to implement department objectives; completes midyear budget review; reviews and approves requisitions; exercises budgetary controls and reallocates resources when necessary.

Building Relationships

Supports mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborates with higher education, workforce, and community partners to enhance student services. Maintains regular communication and working relationships with other areas of the College, keeping them informed of current activities and working collaboratively to achieve institutional priorities. Maintains professional visibility on campus, in the community, and within state and national organizations.

Serves as a resource to the College and Central Ohio on the impact of innovative programming to support and enhance the student experience, close equity gaps, and expand student success for minoritized students. Builds effective relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners to ensure access to appropriate student opportunities. Collaborates with colleagues across the state, building a network to benchmark and identify high-impact practices. Serves on various college committees related to inclusive and innovative high-impact practices.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with diverse groups and communities. Partners strategically with Talent Acquisition to ensure the best diversity, equity & inclusion practices are utilized in hiring that results in hiring and retaining a diverse faculty and staff.

Helps to ensure the College meets its responsibilities in identifying problem areas and systemic concerns while reporting complaints alleging discrimination. Takes responsibility for creating a welcoming, inclusive, and productive work and learning environment where employees and students feel valued and able to contribute to their full potential, regardless of their differences. Assists with conducting workforce analytics to identify potential inhibitors of a workplace environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Ensures College name and image are perceived positively by external and internal audiences/stakeholders. Attends all required meetings and training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Master's Degree in counseling, student personnel, or a relevant field within higher education. Demonstrated experience in progressive leadership in Higher Education Administration, Career Services, Academic Advising, or Academic Student Support and Retention, as well as demonstrated experience in staff supervision and development, is required.

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
