Overview
The student assistant will be trained to perform laboratory experiments as well as literature search, data management and analysis, writing, and presentations. Research activities include extraction, purification, and characterization of food proteins, including their bioactivities (e.g., antioxidant activities), functional properties (e.g., solubility, emulsifying properties, foaming properties, gelation, etc.), and flavor profiles (sensory evaluation and instrumental analysis).


Responsibilities
The student assistant is responsible for attending scheduled trainings on time and performing assigned tasks within the agreed timeline. The student assistant is also responsible for safety operation of all the instruments and keep good maintenance of laboratory facilities.

Responsibilities (100%)

• Protein extraction
• Approximate analysis of foods
• Analytical characterization of food ingredients
• Be on time. Arrive on time for meetings and trainings.
• Maintain lab safety and instruments. Clean lab space after use.
• Keep good notes of laboratory activities.
• Submit data and reports within 24 h after completion of data collection.
• Communicate with the advisor timely regarding questions, laboratory issues, absences, etc.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at SDSU

Desired Qualifications

• Laboratory experiences are desired
• Can work on the position for longer than one year
