The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Children's Hospital are seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, Associate Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, or full Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, on the clinician-scholar track. This individual will have the role of Medical Director of the Center for Diversity and Health Equity (CDHE) at Seattle Children’s Hospital, described further below. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is Summer/Fall 2023. 

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and Full Professors  hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful candidate will have duties at Seattle Children's Hospital, the University of Washington School of Medicine and associated University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital clinics as guided by their clinical division. Faculty provide direct supervision and bedside/didactic teaching of rotating residents, medical students and advanced practice providers. 

Established in 2006, the Seattle Children’s Hospital CDHE is dedicated to the recognition and elimination of health inequities for children, families, and communities. The vision of CDHE is that Seattle Children’s Hospital meets the unique needs of children, families, and communities to achieve their optimal health and well-being. The CDHE Medical Director provides leadership, including planning, directing, and supervising the clinical-focused activities of the CDHE in a collaborative partnership with the Manager of the CDHE, the Senior Director of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Research Director of CDHE. The CDHE Medical Director will report directly to both the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington/SVP/Chief Academic Officer, as well as the Senior Vice President/Chief People Officer at Seattle Children's Hospital. Additional key collaborators for the CDHE Medical Director include: the Seattle Children’s Chief Equity Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Director of Clinical Analytics, and other hospital and research leadership and staff. The CDHE Medical Director provides input and leadership for both internal and external programs and policies, including analysis and review of data regarding institutional practices that may have disparate impacts on specific patient populations.  The CDHE Medical Director will collaborate and consult on the following institutional initiatives: health equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism strategic plan, clinical operations, clinical standard work and guideline implementation, quality and safety, metrics for evaluation of institutional efforts, academic affairs and faculty education, and graduate medical education.  Further, they are able to strengthen connections and collaborations with community members and community organizations.

The CDHE Medical Director has a focus on providing effective leadership to ensure advances in health equity in the clinical setting, and to bring an equity and anti-racist framework to all clinically based policy at Seattle Children’s. The CDHE Medical Director oversees existing CDHE clinical programs and leads creation of new programs in areas of institutional policies for clinical operations and delivery, Maintenance of Certification, and other resources for staff and faculty to promote equity and anti-racism at SCH. The CDHE Medical Director ensures that these activities are aligned with Seattle Children’s goals, vision, mission and values and reinforces the hospital’s commitment and accountability to patients, families and the community.

The CDHE Medical Director’s FTE is non-clinical time. The time spent will be reflected by the Director’s standard work schedule of meetings, huddles, and on-site presence with the CDHE team and other partners. The CDHE Medical Director will have the responsibility of aligning with Seattle Children’s strategic objectives related to one more of the following: equity and anti-racism across the organization. They will work closely with the CDHE Research Director and Senior Director of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to ensure effective and efficient programs and activities and will also actively contribute and participate in initiatives that advance the organization’s goals and objectives at the local, institutional and systems level. This includes but is not limited to: financial stewardship, improving the participant, family and faculty/workforce experience, promoting diversity and inclusion, and addressing issues of health equity. The CDHE Medical Director will also manage clinically-based programs and projects directly or with a CDHE program manager and will provide direct oversight to CDHE’s support of Quality and Safety. They will also attend Residency Diversity Committee (DCOMM) meetings, supporting the Inclusion, Cultural Humility, Diversity and Equity (INCLUDE) residency curriculum, partner with equity Chief Resident and Chief Residents, and help to respond to equity consults that involve trainees.

The base salary range for this position will be: $12,500 - $39,584 per month ($150,000 - $475,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).
