Position Summary

In coordination with the Catering Sales Manager and Catering Chef, the Catering Operations Manager provides supervision, leadership, and direction in the execution and service of all catered events on and off campus. This position assures the successful execution of multiple on and off-site events daily and supports the ongoing development of a cutting-edge, clientele-focused catering service.

The Catering Operations Manager has budgetary responsibility which includes the allocation of staff, the ordering of equipment and supplies, and is responsible for the overall quality of hospitality, front-of-house service, and training of staff. The Catering Operations Manager provides service to guests and fellow team members in a manner that meets or exceeds established standards and ensures compliance with established departmental policies and procedures.

This position supervises classified and student employees and reports to the Assistant Director of Dining for Catering & Conference Services.

Special Requirements
  • Varying schedule to include nights and/or weekends.
  • Obtaining a food handlers permit and OLCC servers permit.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a UO Drivers Certification for the purpose of driving University vehicles.

    Essential Personnel:
    This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at the campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Four years of Catering/Banquet experience.
  • Three years of experience managing a Catering/Banquet team, including supervising, training, and assigning work with responsibility for disciplinary issues.
  • Demonstrated experience operating multiple daily events.

    Professional Competencies

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups to plan and coordinate catered events.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule Catering/Banquet staff.
  • Demonstrated success directing staff and coordinating catering events.
  • Demonstrated creativity in developing presentations for high-end catering events and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices and liquor laws.
  • Demonstrated experience ordering food products and supplies, and managing maintenance and inventory of banquet equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associates's degree in food service management, hotel and restaurant administration, or related field.
  • Experience managing a unionized food service staff.
  • Experience in a college or university food service operation overseeing the “Front of House” within Catering/Conferences Services.
  • Experience working with computerized food service management systems and point of sale systems.
