Job Description
This position organizes, promotes, plans, directs, and administratively supervises a broad range of specialized and highly complex research grants and office management services associated with daily operation of the Missouri Protoplex Industrial Research Center. The position requires its holder to work independently and in concert with the four Center Directors located in the Protoplex to manage all nonscientific aspects of research proposals and grants from inception to completion throughout the grants' lifecycles, and daily management of Protoplex staff.

Job Function
  • All non-technical aspects of proposal preparation including budget preparation, interpretation of state, federal, and specific grant laws, policies, and constraints, supervising faculty in scheduling of proposal development activities, interface with executive level military officers and large corporation vice presidents in relation to proposal development and research grant project management.
  • Grant project management activities such as assigning and monitoring budget items correcting variances from planned budgets, supervision of faculty for regular report generation and submission, assuring adherence to all federal and state laws as they pertain to grants.
  • Leadership in interfacing and communicating with Center federal and corporate research sponsors in relation to management of large proposals and research grants to assure research deliverables are met on time, on budget, and working with Principal Investigators, assuring technical quality requirements are met.
  • Daily supervision and planning of activities of administrative staff supporting research in the Center Director's office, and daily management of Center administration operations including submittal to appropriate university office of purchase requisitions, invoices for payment to vendors, strategic planning of Center administrative operations.
  • Works alongside Center Directors to collegially engage in supervision of faculty, staff and students in carrying out research activities in support of large, multi-institution research grants.
  • Works with Center Faculty and Staff to fully participate in Center strategic planning activities, and monitors progress in execution of strategic plan. Performs similar activities in defining and working with Center staff to carry out daily business activities.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor degree in related field with 10 years-experience. MS, PhD, or JD degree with 5 years of experience is strongly preferred.
