Position Purpose
Under general oversight of the Research and Occupational Health Associate Director, this position oversees the Dartmouth-wide comprehensive Occupational Health Programs to ensure the minimization of risk related to injury and non-compliance with regulations. Program management is accomplished through, planning, implementation, providing regulatory guidance and oversight, technical assistance, consultation, and education and training. Position supervises EHS Occupational Health professionals.

Dartmouth Environmental Health and Safety
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS ) provides advice and guidance to the Dartmouth Community on occupational safety, lab safety, and environmental protection issues. EHS manages the College’s chemical, biological, and radiological use, oversees occupational and research safety, and plays an essential role in emergency preparedness.

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Six years of progressively increasing responsibility in environmental health & safety management, with focus on Industrial Hygiene.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or other relevant science degree.
- Wide and comprehensive knowledge of occupational regulations, professional standards, and best practices in industrial hygiene.
- Strong interpersonal, written and presentation skills. Able to meet the needs of an educationally and culturally diverse community.
- Maturity, good judgment, and poise in potentially stressful situations.
- Ability to read and review technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to conduct exposure assessments and to communicate findings to a wide array of stakeholders.
- Must maintain current US or Canadian driver license and ability to qualify as a Dartmouth Approved Driver.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist, or ability to get this certification within one to two years.
- Master’s degree in field of study allied to environmental health & safety.
- Ability to recognize and prioritize occupational and environmental management needs to ensure effective risk control and continuous improvement.
- Strong risk assessment and risk communication skills.
- Experience at an institution of higher learning, or an institution of similar complexity re: shared governance and varied constituencies.

Occupational Health Program Management
- Complete data analysis, reports, and provide recommendation(s) based on data trends.
- Conduct evaluations of exposure to radiation, lighting, and noise and develop control measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
- Consult with management, industrial engineers, employee representatives, and regulatory agencies regarding occupational health problems and solutions.
- Conduct inspections, exposure assessments, and indoor air quality assessments, and effectively communicate the results to stakeholders with a wide array of experience and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and departments across campus to ensure EHS programs are compliant, effective, and allied with the broader goals of accident and injury prevention and risk management.
- Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal agencies.

Hazard Control
- Determine effectiveness of engineering control methods and make recommendations regarding location, design, structure, operations, and maintenance of contaminant and physical agent control systems.
- Investigate adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions which may affect employee health, ergonomics, and overall efficiency.
- Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback on construction drawings and specifications.
