The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for part-time Lecturers to teach in the Social Sciences Core sequence Global Society during the spring quarter of the 2022-23 school year. Global Society is a three-quarter sequence that fulfills the University’s general education requirement in the social sciences. The sequence is designed to cultivate a global perspective on social sciences research and exposes students to a longstanding, globally expansive tradition within the social sciences. The spring quarter emphasizes the craft of social science research, helping students grow from consumers to producers of knowledge. Lecturers will teach between one and four sections of Global Society, depending on curricular needs. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching a seminar-style course, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending weekly staff meetings. The per-course salary is $7,319, and the position is not benefits eligible.  

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.

Qualifications

The position requires a graduate degree in the social sciences and experience with quantitative data analyses related to population. Applicants must have a record of teaching at the college level, preferably in seminar-style general education courses that engage students in close reading and discussion.
