Johns Hopkins University (Johns Hopkins) seeks an Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Retention Initiatives (AVP) who will provide strong leadership, direction, and oversight of the University’s effort to meet student needs, enhance student progression and retention, and improve graduation rates. The AVP will support, develop, lead, and coordinate efforts that make it possible for students to thrive at JHU, with attention to the needs of first generation, limited-income, international, and underrepresented students. A core responsibility of the AVP will be to expand and fully develop collaborations and partnerships with the Office of the Provost as well as leadership and staff at the schools and divisions to implement a systems-thinking approach to student success and retention and graduation outcomes at Johns Hopkins.

The AVP will provide student-centered and outcomes-oriented strategic leadership, vision, planning, and management for the University’s student success, retention, and graduation initiatives, supporting school efforts through data and research and distribution of key decision-making metrics across the schools and divisions. Additionally, the AVP will provide oversight for the successful planning of resources, processes, platforms, technology, data, and analyses that support student success including the administration, collection, review, and analysis of student data to inform decision-making. The AVP will also be responsible for managing the endowed funds and reporting for student success and retention initiatives.

The Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Retention Initiatives will report to Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Rachelle Hernandez, serving as a member of the student affairs senior leadership team. The AVP will advise the Vice Provost and campus leadership on various matters of policy pertaining to student success and strategies, collaborations, and efficiencies that enhance overall enrollment and student success at the University. The AVP will oversee the Office of Student Success and Retention Initiatives (OSSRI), which consists of four direct reports, a budget of approximately $1.5 million, and the following units: Center for Student Success, Retention Initiatives, Center for Student Success, Assessment and Analysis, and Student Outreach and Support.
