The University of Miami Libraries seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library (Weeks Music Library), which is embedded in thePhillip and Patricia Frost School of Music. Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited.

A private research university with more than 17,000 students from around the world, the University of Miami is a vibrant and diverse academic community focused on teaching and learning, the discovery of new knowledge, and service to the South Florida region and beyond. The University comprises 12 schools and colleges serving undergraduate and graduate students in nearly 350 majors and programs.

Located on the edge of Lake Osceola on the Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami, the Weeks Music Library is a 22,500 square-foot facility that houses significant collections of sound recordings, musical theater archives, manuscripts, and other resources and offers more than 150 seats for individual and collaborative study. The new Director of the Weeks Music Library will serve as the University Libraries' lead liaison librarian for the Frost School of Music by engaging actively with faculty and students; offering library instructional and consultation services; developing the Weeks Music Library's collections; and promoting the Weeks Music Library among the broader University and public. Depending on the individual's area of specialty and qualifications, the Director may also teach in the Frost School.

The Weeks Music Library is well integrated within and supported by the University of Miami Libraries. The Weeks Music Library's 6.0 FTE staff members are supervised by relevant department heads in the Access Services, Creative Studio, Metadata and Discovery Services, and Preservation Strategies departments, with guidance and coordination provided by the Director of the Weeks Music Library. This new reporting structure has been implemented to provide a more unified user experience across the University Libraries, create more professional growth opportunities for employees, and offer the incoming Director of the Weeks Music Library the time and flexibility needed to focus on faculty and student engagement. The Director of the Weeks Music Library will also work collaboratively with theScholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts & Humanities, whose office is located in the Weeks Music Library.

The innovative Frost School of Music houses stunning concert and recital halls, world-class recording studios and labs, a technology center, the premier Weeks Music Library, as well as an array of fully-equipped rehearsal spaces. With the groundbreaking Frost Method®curriculum, in collaboration with faculty, students become musicians with artistic, technological, and entrepreneurial skills to thrive in the 21st century.

The Weeks Music Library is a one-of-a-kind laboratory for independent exploration and high technology scholarship that supports the Frost School of Music, one of the top ten schools of music in the country. Coupled with the University of Miami Libraries' impressive general collection, the Weeks Music Library helps create one of the most important music research centers in the southeastern United States. The next director will have the opportunity to leverage the current strengths of the collections, spaces, faculty, students and staff to create a collaborative, forward-looking vision for the future of the Weeks Music Library.
