Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities & Arena Operations is an integral member of the
athletics senior staff with oversight responsibilities over all aspects of athletic facility operations. This
position will directly manage and ensure proper function of both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities,
as well as coordinate all staff necessary for safe and effective operations. This position will support all
athletic capital projects, facility improvements, annual facility maintenance, and ensure that facilities
are safe, well maintained, properly staffed, and reflective of the high expectations of a Division I, first-
class athletic experience for all users. The successful candidate will work in tandem with the Assistant
Director of Athletics for Operations, Events & Championships and report directly to the Senior
Associate Director of Athletics. Sport oversight responsibilities will be determined based on the
qualifications of the successful candidate.
Oversight of facility budget (forecasting, deferred maintenance, staffing, general operations)
- Facility maintenance and safety
- Effective management of equipment and systems to ensure proper function
- Attain proper certifications for specialized facility and equipment operations
- Venue set-up and breakdown
- Coordination of visiting teams and officials
- Implementing emergency plans and procedures
- Hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising event, student staff and interns
- Maintain master calendar of events taking place at athletics facilities, including games, practices,
- community hours and campus events
- Payroll supervision and oversight for students and part-time staff
- Event and crowd management
- Assist in the coordination and execution of conference and NCAA championships
- Assist in identifying annual capital improvement needs for the department and, in conjunction with
- the campus facilities department, manage the implementation of approved capital improvements
- Sport oversight responsibility
- Act as the department liaison with campus facilities staff to ensure all athletics facilities are cleaned
- and maintained in an appropriate manner
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree; Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience with athletic event/facility
- management/operations and athletic scheduling at the collegiate/professional level
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of athletic facilities management, including ice rink and pool operations
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems efficiently, effectively and independently
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to multi-task, detail oriented and ability to work with diverse group of staff members
- Strong customer service with the ability to troubleshoot and handle pressure situations
- Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast-paced student-athlete service driven environment
- Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
- Preferred Qualifications: Master degree in related field; Previous Division I intercollegiate athletic
- experience in event and facility management
- Collaboration: Exchanging information, ideas, thoughts and feelings thoughtfully with others in a
- manner that is proactive and enhances partnerships
