Job Description

Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics

Basic Function and Responsibility
Assist and maintain academic success for student athletes for the Department of Athletics on NCAA, GLVC and institutional rules.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the technical mentor and main contact for student-athletes as it relates to academic success.
  2. Organize and maintain all academic support programs.
  3. Serve as the liaison to other university departments and faculty and staff regarding academic progress.
  4. Collects and analysis tactical and statistical data on each student-athlete and designs plans and strategies for a path to graduation.
  5. Establish strong communication skills with coaches on student-athlete progress.
  6. Assist with on campus recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  7. Provide direction and guidance regarding planning and implementation of new NCAA and GLVC rules as they pertain to academic and eligibility requirements with other departments on campus.
  8. Evaluate unofficial transcripts on potential freshman and transfer student athletes.
  9. Serve as designated contact for UMSL Early Alert Program.
  10. Directs the operations of the Program for Academic Success (PASS).
  11. Arrange and monitor the tutorial program.
  12. Coordinate and supervise academic honor banquets and annual awards.
  13. Plan and implement the student-athlete fall orientation course.
  14. Provides direction and guidance with each sport team’s community service involvement.
  15. Serve as an advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
  16. Involvement with other administrative duties as assigned.

8:00am – 5:00pm

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications: Masters preferred, Undergraduate degree required.
Minimum of two years as an academic counselor.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
A minimum of four years in a collegiate environment.
Involvement with athletics or a former student athlete
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with computers, work processing, database software.
Knowledge of University of Missouri My View System.
