The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of North Carolina Pembroke invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2023 with a specialization in Cybersecurity. Applicants with significant teaching/industry/government experience and a strong record of scholarly work and extramural funding may be considered for the Associate Professor position.

The candidate will be expected to effectively teach a variety of Cybersecurity, IT, and CS courses, advise and mentor students, engage in research, scholarship, and professional service, publish research findings and seek external funding to support research and education in Cybersecurity and related areas, and participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

In particular, the candidate should be able to teach three or more of the following courses; Cybersecurity Management, Database Security, Software Security, Digital Forensics, Cloud Security, Network Security, Operating Systems, and Digital Logic. The candidate must be able to design course materials to align and support our accreditation applications to CAE-CD and ABET; actively participate in learning outcomes assessment; help in organizing activities for Cybersecurity related student clubs. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively through spoken, written, and visual media.

Salary and academic rank are commensurately depending on directly related education and experience level.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Candidates should have a Ph.D. or ABD in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field with at least 18 credit hours at the graduate level in the above-mentioned disciplines, and possess experience in the teaching or industry, research interests, and relevant on-going or planned publications in the discipline.

Candidates who are ABD could start at Instructor rank and salary, and move to Assistant Professor after successful completion of the Ph.D. In such an event the said candidate would be expected to complete the Ph.D. within one year of the official start date at UNC Pembroke.

Expertise in Cyber Security and one or more following IT and CS areas is required; system integration, object-oriented programming, operating systems, networking, mobile application development, data science, and machine learning.
