At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking an Executive Director who oversees the Office of Research and leads a team that provides strategic and operational support for existing programs, supports faculty in achieving research goals, and proactively partners with faculty to identify new opportunities and advance initiatives across various research areas. As a team leader, the Executive Director champions research and innovation and serves on multiple committees for the three colleges. The Executive Director of Research (Executive Director) reports to the President/CEO and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate is required. Grant writing experience and documented record of funded research. Five years of experience managing research projects in a lab environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides operational oversight of the Office of Research, including staff, policies, procedures, compliance, grant writing, contracts, pre-post award management, and fiscal operations.
  • Ensures that University-based policies and procedures for research, education, and service activities are updated and implemented in compliance with federal and state regulations in areas including, but not limited to, human subjects, animal care, biosafety, radiation safety, conflict of interest, intellectual property, export control.
  • Ensures the Office of Research supports the complete grants management process, from pre-award to post-award, and closeout by working with University administration, faculty, staff, and funding agencies.
  • Evaluates compliance with University, sponsor, federal, and state laws, regulations, and policies governing funded projects by reviewing all proposals, contracts, and other agreements, submitted to external agencies by faculty and staff. Oversees faculty committees and sponsored programs.
  • Collaborates on identifying research-related needs and proactively addressing issues.
  • Monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of research operations and regulatory controls.
  • Serves as a liaison with governmental organizations responsible for implementing compliance regulations.
  • Oversees the activities of compliance committees, including the Institutional Review Board for the
  • Protection of Human Subjects, Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Biosafety, and Radiation Safety. Serves on the University committees as appropriate.
