The Art Therapy Program of The George Washington University in Washington, DC invites applications for a full-time faculty and specialized service position. The position is a twelve-month appointment to begin July 1, 2023.

 

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative art therapy program at The George Washington University. Our program is known for our: trauma and neuro-informed coursework integrating current research with clinical work in our on-site Art Therapy Clinic; international focus with reciprocal-learning opportunities in India, Croatia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates; diverse internship opportunities with over 100 sites; state-of-the-art classroom facilities and dedicated Art Therapy Gallery space; and our history as one of the oldest art therapy programs established by founders of the art therapy field. 

 

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who is interested in joining a cohesive faculty team with varied interests and work experience. The successful candidate will assist in teaching and overseeing student clinical work within the university and the community. Each Professor is expected to deepen his/her involvement in the community, presenting and publishing, and creative endeavors. The Professor will work closely with the Director of the Art Therapy Program, our diverse student body, the faculty, and the University and local community. We are seeking to attract culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.

 

The position includes service components with the title of Internship Coordinator. Duties and basic qualifications for the position are listed below.

 

Duties: Teaching, coordinating internship program, providing supervisor trainings, initiating university and local community collaborations, programmatic work, and service to university and professional organizations.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in creative arts therapy, clinical psychology, counseling psychology or closely related field
  • Registration and Board Certification as an Art Therapist (ATR-BC)
  • Clinical Licensure in a mental health field (ex: LPC, LCSW)
  • Ability to register as an Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor (ATCS)
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-Masters clinical experience
  • A minimum of 4 years of teaching and course development
  • Experience in managing and advising students in clinical work
  • Ability to work independently and collegially as part of a cohesive team to achieve GW’s programmatic goals
  • A history of service to their profession and university/college

Salary and position are commensurate with experience; salary range is considered competitive and includes start-up funds.
