Health Studies: Assistant Professor of Health Studies - 000796

The University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Health Studies with expertise in U.S. and/or global health promotion or policy to begin in August 2023. Richmond is a top-20 national liberal arts college that prepares its nearly 4,000 students to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society. Under Richmond's "teacher-scholar" model, professors typically teach undergraduate courses, author peer-reviewed scholarship, mentor student researchers, and participate in departmental and university governance.

The Department of Health Studies (https://hs.richmond.edu/) is a vibrant and growing unit that equips students with theoretical and empirical frameworks for understanding the social, cultural, environmental, biological, psychological, ethical, economic, legal, and policy contexts that shape individual and population health. The Department welcomes applicants from a variety of fields within public health, including global health, health promotion, health policy, social and behavioral health sciences, population health, community health, health services research, and environmental health, among others. A doctoral degree must be completed prior to the start date. The successful candidate for this position will be prepared to teach introductory courses in health policy and/or global health as well as upper-division undergraduate courses in specialty areas.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu and upload a CV and a cover letter that includes statements about teaching interests and experience, strategies for teaching effectiveness, research vision and plans, and engagement with health equity. These materials should substantively and explicitly engage with notions of equity and inclusive education. Candidates should provide the names and contact information for three references who may be asked, at a later date, to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence on February 27, 2023, and continue until the position is filled. Please address any questions about the position to the search committee chair, Kathryn H. Jacobsen (kjacobse@richmond.edu).
