Director of Graduate Admission - Library Science and Liberal Arts
The Director of Graduate Admission for Library and Information Science and Liberal Arts will be responsible for developing and implementing the recruitment strategy for key graduate programs including the top ranked Archives Management program in the country and Simmons' renowned Children's Literature program, as well as programs in Gender & Cultural Studies, History and a variety of Dual Degree Programs.
Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director will work with faculty and program leadership to design and implement recruitment and yield strategies in order to meet annual enrollment goals (primarily in the Fall and Spring semesters). The Director is responsible for managing the process from inquiry through application and enrollment including application review, admission decisions and the merit award strategy, in collaboration with faculty and program leadership. The Director is also responsible for managing the departmental budget, developing a comprehensive marketing plan, leading campus visit events, and designing/implementing the recruitment travel plan. The Director has a highly visible in the University and will serve on the University Leadership Team (ULT).
Including application review, admission decision and merit award strategy, in collaboration with faculty.
The Director will oversee admission staff members, and be a member of the Enrollment Management Directors' team. All candidates for this position must have demonstrated management experience, strong understanding of admission processes, and knowledge of the basic principles of enrollment management. The Director will need strong analytical skills and be very comfortable working with large amounts of data. The candidate's student recruitment experience should demonstrate success in generating inquiries, converting inquiries to applicants, and yielding deposits in the admissions cycle. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an appreciation for teamwork and collaboration, and an exceptional work ethic.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for meeting new student enrollment goals two
semesters per year
- Collaborate with Graduate Admission Directors to manage day to
day graduate admission office operations
- Recruit, train, and supervise core staff
- Monitor admission budget and expenditures to ensure fiscal
responsibility and adherence to university policy
- Oversee the distribution of merit scholarships, assistantships,
and endowed funds with the goal of increasing new student
conversions
- Have working knowledge about financial aid programs and student
loans
- Develop and implement admissions/marketing plans for multiple
programs
- Optimize the use of the Slate CRM system for efficient,
customer focused communication and application
processing.
- Identify new markets and other recruitment opportunities for
growth
- Collect, report, and analyze data for trends, opportunities,
and goal setting
- Plan and implement information sessions and yield
events
- Attend and participate in regular meetings including the
Graduate Admission Directors meeting, College-wide team meetings,
faculty meetings, and the Enrollment Management Huddles
.
- Monitor and enforce University and program accreditation
policies and procedures that affect prospective and new graduate
students
- Collaborate with the VP, Deans, and faculty program directors
to project annual new student headcount and credits
Qualifications:
- The candidate must have a bachelor's degree, and a minimum of 5 years of professional admission experience with progressive responsibility in either undergraduate or graduate areas.
- The candidate should have strong student-centered orientation, appreciation for exceptional customer service, and the ability to foster relationships with faculty and the Simmons community.
- Must be comfortable in a collaborative flexible workplace setting and be able to enthusiastically represent the University and its mission to outside constituencies.
- Must have experience managing individuals/teams and have a high level of experience with public speaking and presentations. Some national travel is required.
