JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life within the Center for Student Involvement, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Specialist (FSL Specialist) serves as a member of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) team and participates in the development, enrichment and assessment of the university's vibrant and diverse Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) community.

This position is one of three staff who support 35+ social Greek-letter organizations and approximately 2,700 affiliated students, or 13% of the undergraduate student population at Northeastern. The FSL Specialist supports students and chapters that are part of the four governing councils and honor society: Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Panhellenic Council (PC), and Order of Omega.

The incumbent is responsible for strategically enhancing the fraternal community and partners with the Associate Director & Assistant Director to serve in an advisory role to the four governing councils and chapters that comprise these councils. Advisement to these groups requires but is not limited to: developing short and long-term goals, enhancing operational excellence and health of the organization, creating educational trainings and resources, ensuring compliance with university and membership organizations' policies and procedures, and fostering responsible and sustainable growth. This position is essential in creating spaces for fraternity and sorority members to discuss community-wide issues, harm reduction and risk mitigation strategies, and how to build inclusive communities. The FSL Specialist will serve as a Chapter Coach for a subset of fraternities & sororities across the four councils and will advise organizations in event planning, philanthropic efforts, and community service initiatives. This position focuses on creating an inclusive and interconnected community for affiliated members through spearheading all signature FSL events such as FSL Awards, Take it to the Floor, Greek Sing, Stepfest, and Greek Week. The FSL Specialist plays an integral role in ensuring chapters are in compliance with the university and their membership organization's policies, and will oversee the roster management system and associated forms. Additionally, the FSL Specialist will assist in “telling the story” of the FSL community and will generate term scholarship reports to track trends and share academic performance data with various stakeholders. In conjunction with CSI staff, this position will supervise, train, and evaluate a semesterly co-op (cooperative education) student.

As a member of the collaborative Center for Student Involvement team, the FSL Specialist will possess a commitment to all programs and events that originate within the Center and will provide support to colleagues in the implementation of various signature programs (Homecoming, Fall Fest, Winter Involvement Fair, Student Life Awards, etc.). As a member of a collaborative unit, the FSL Specialist will also provide support for the various leadership programs that are coordinated by Center staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education/student affairs or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum up to two years experience in student activities, major event management and fraternity/sorority life community development. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience advising fraternal organizations.
  • Candidates should have an awareness of specific trends and issues affecting fraternities and sororities on a inter/national level, and should identify industry-wide best practices in fraternity/sorority advising to enhance the FSL community.
  • Desire to work at a fast-paced, global university is essential as is a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written communication skills and knowledge of social media platforms and techniques. As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the FSL Specialist will align their work with the established mission, vision, and literacies of the division.
