Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Director of Business Services Finance & Resource Management is responsible for overseeing the financial, accounting, process improvement, budgeting, resource management, and fiscal operations for all areas within Business Services, including general fund budgets, receipt-supported auxiliary budgets, student fee-supported budgets, and trust funds, as well as reserves necessary to support major fiduciary obligations (e.g., continuity of operations, major capital outlay, debt service). This position works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Business Services, the Budget Office, the Controller’s Office, and Human Resources, along with directors, supervisors, and business officers in all of Business Services, other units of the division of Business Affairs, and other university departments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring unit financial procedures and processes (e.g., procurement, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, fixed asset accounting, etc. in order to facilitate accurate and timely financial reporting; coordinating the necessary documentation to support budget requests and fee requests before the appropriate Finance Committees (for presentation up to and including Board of Trustees and/or Board of Governors); providing assurances to third parties and auditors, and producing budgets and budget revisions in support of university planning and budgeting.

This position develops and manages a variety of processes to adequately track and plan for the facility, human capital, technology/communications, and contracted services expenses. This position reviews and makes recommendations on all internal requests related to revenue, expenditures, contracts, and amendments, along with preparing an analysis of business components and financial projections. This position performs a consultative role before, during, and after internal or external financial audits.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Masters in accounting or closely related field and 2- 4 yrs experience; or Bachelors in accounting or closely related field and 3-5 yrs experience in accounting or related field;
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in fiscal projections, preparing managerial statements, and development of what-if scenarios and data modeling.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Experience in a public university setting with budget processes, budget development, performing accurate journal entries, and maintaining commitment control.
  • Experience with information systems (Banner, SRSS, AiM, SciQuest Ushop, Transact, Sequoia, T2 Flex), as well as reporting tools (Excel, Special Funds Budget Application Developer).
  • Driven by project timelines; ability to set priorities and to work comfortably in a fast-paced, fluid, deadline-driven environment with multiple demands while providing accurate information and following through to completion of projects assigned.
  • Finance I, II, and III levels in staff training certification and 20 hours of accounting courses.
  • Experience with information systems (Banner, SRSS, AiM, SciQuest Ushop, Transact, Sequoia, T2 Flex), as well as reporting tools (Excel, Special Funds Budget Application Developer).
  • Experience with budget processes, budget development, performing accurate journal entries, and maintaining commitment control.
  • Demonstrated technical skills involving computer-based systems, data compilation, and enterprise financial systems.
  • Excellent oral presentation, written communication, organizational skills, and attention to customer service.
