    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    The Program Leader in Workforce Development position in the Kentucky State University College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences (ACS) in the Land Grant Program will lead efforts to coordinate with both stakeholders and students to provide coordination of experiential learning opportunities, internships, and entry-level career opportunities in Cooperative Extension and agricultural related fields with a focus on identifying companies and organizations committed to building a sustainable pipeline of opportunities for students within the KSU College of ACS. The Program Leader in Workforce Development will drive efforts to expand relationships with agricultural related companies across the US and internationally to promote a portfolio of undergraduate and graduate internship and job opportunities associated with corporate functions. This position will also coordinate building relationships with faith-based and non-faith based organizations, local agencies, community organizations, Ag companies, and city and county government. This position will work with key decision-makers and effectively build a cohesive diversified Louisville team to address and construct resilient communities. This position will support off-campus paraprofessional, and Extension professionals with expanding Extension networks and financial resources for working with limited resource and minority communities in urban communities in Kentucky.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops a Workforce Development Program in the Land Grant Program with an emphasis on agriculture opportunities and supervises a number of individuals in this program.
  2. Arranges and monitors summer internships for students majoring in agriculture or related fields.
  3. Meets with students individually and in group sessions for guidance on internship and job applications, and the writing of resumes and cover letters
  4. Manages financial aspects of all internship programs, budget reconciliation, and regularly reports to the donors and foundations about the recipients’ experiences
  5. Establishes an internship orientation, check-in, and evaluation process
  6. Prepares an annual report for the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences and Chair of the School of Agriculture, Communities, and the Environment each August, analyzing internship supervisor evaluations and flagging any areas that need curricular attention
  7. Arranges and hosts on-campus recruiters and working with Career Development to create opportunities and set up interview schedules
  8. Makes new connections with partners to establish other outreach programs and develop, execute, and report community engagement initiatives in Louisville and other urban areas in Kentucky.
  9. Follow up on requests from partners and prospective partners seeking information on academic and Land Grant research and Extension programs.
  10. Attend and provide updates at various Extension meetings involving community partners.
  11. Plan, implement, and evaluate community economic development educational programs in urban areas.
  12. Share research-based results with stakeholders through Extension programs journal articles and fact sheets.
  13. Serve on committees for the university, stakeholder groups, and professional associations.
  14. Provide trainings and relevant educational materials for Extension agents and report in the Kentucky Extension Reporting System.


OTHER DUTIES: The position will conduct other duties as required.



QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in public affairs, personnel management, educational leadership, community development, public administration, sociology or a related field. One to three years of experience in a related field preferred.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:


  • Evidence of administrative leadership, managerial skills, and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Extension program development process, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Extensive knowledge of community and economic development and leadership
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages.
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and the ability to work independently are essential.
  • Valid driver’s license.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
  • Extensive travel is required.
  • Work could involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires some standing or walking.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
