The compensation for this appointment will range from $24.00 to $29.00 hourly and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Position Summary Information
Summary
Provides technical assistance in campus rekeying and access control requests. Follows customer security procedures in accordance with existing access control policies and key coding protocols, ensuring the continued integrity of the University’s master key program. Participates in the repair, installation, and servicing of locks, electronic access equipment, and related hardware, for building and room points of entry, and exterior pedestrian and vehicle gates. Participates in Call In/Call Back procedure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Installs access control devices, adapting current keying systems and protocols within the parameters of existing University resource protection policies.
- Installs or assists with overseeing the installation, integration, programming, and repair of electronic access controls, including proximity card and swipe card hardware.
- Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the University’s master key system while meeting customer needs.
- Inputs and retrieves data in a prescribed format, utilizing knowledge of various computer software packages.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains mechanical locks and electronic key card systems.
- Installs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.
- As directed, perform the work of more junior technical staff, such as rekeying buildings, cutting and issuing keys, installation of hardware, and other tasks as needed.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Attends regular safety meetings and works in a safe manner.
- A valid California driver’s license is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part-time Student Workers, in order to complete office work assignments.

- Working knowledge of electronic access control technology.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
- A thorough knowledge of Business English and arithmetic, general office methods, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
- Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
- Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent telephone courtesy knowledge and experience.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
