Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Dr. Jennifer Totonchy is seeking a Research Scientist to join her research group at Chapman University. This position will be Dr. Totonchy’s “right-hand” person and will have responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day activities in the laboratory as well as training and supervising students and staff during daily laboratory tasks. The Research Scientist will have significant creative scientific input into the research directions of the laboratory and will be involved in executing current research trajectories and invited to conceptualize and initiate new avenues of research within the scope of the laboratory’s interests. The Research Scientist will have oversight and authorship on publications and will be a co-PI on grant proposals.
If you are a postdoctoral fellow seeking to stay in academia and earn a living wage without becoming a PI, this position may be right for you. This position is currently funded for three years with the potential for extension if further funding is obtained (for example, an R50 award). The ideal candidate will have a PhD and at least three years of postdoctoral experience in immunology. Specific expertise in high parameter flow cytometry analysis that is supported by peer-reviewed publications is required. Experience with molecular virology and viral infection of lymphocytes is highly desirable, but not required.
The Totonchy lab focuses on early events in the transmission of Kaposi Sarcoma Herpesvirus in human B lymphocytes. We employ ex vivo human lymphocyte culture models, molecular virology tools, transciptomics and multi-parameter flow cytometry to monitor the dynamics of early KSHV infection, understand how the immune microenvironment influences the establishment of infection and determine how KSHV perturbs B cell physiology.
The Totonchy laboratory is located in the School of Pharmacy ( CUSP ) at Chapman University’s Rinker Health Science Campus in Irvine, California. CUSP is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary scientific environment, and our faculty’s research interests span the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences including drug discovery and development, pharmacology, structural biology, virology, immunology, cancer biology, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate.
