Assistant Professor / Early Childhood Education


  • The School of Education is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and experienced individual who holds a valid PreK-3 Certification (or equivalent) to lead early childhood initiatives / programs within the School of Education. This individual must be an experienced early childhood educator and teacher-leader. Applicants should have knowledge of current research, practice, and legislation relating to early childhood education. Experience teaching in higher education is preferred (including but not limited to teaching online, face-to-face, and hybrid modalities). A scholarly agenda focusing on early childhood education is desired. Opportunities exist to lead faculty or student groups in research projects.

    This is a full-time, tenure track position in the School of Education beginning Fall 2023 (or earlier, if possible).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead early childhood initiatives at the graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Direct, manage, and support early childhood undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses with early childhood education as the focus
  • Teach at the Lakewood Campus as well as off site locations.
  • Ability to teach in multiple formats (face-to-face, online, hybrid)
  • Actively lead, participate, and collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues in departmental functions including program and curricular development / revisions, assessment, and accreditation
  • Actively support students through advisement, mentoring, and student-related activities
  • Assess teaching effectiveness and analyze the outcomes of courses taught regularly and commit to continuous improvement
  • Pursue an active research agenda
  • Enthusiastically contribute to University, School of Education, Department, and Program functions and services including committees, district partnerships, and University sponsored events such as Open Houses
  • Integrate the Mercy Core Values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice, and service in all aspects of teaching and interactions with faculty, students, administration and outside partnerships
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field (e.g. curriculum and instruction, literacy, special education, ESL)
  • Early Childhood Education Certification (PreK-3 or equivalent)
  • Evidence of an emerging research agenda relating to early childhood education
  • Collaborative, collegial dispositions
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience in higher education highly preferred
  • Proficiency in working in virtual, hybrid and online formats
  • Ability to teach in non-traditional formats and settings (off-campus, online, accelerated, alternate route)
  • Experience with accreditation preferred
  • English as a second language (ESL) or teacher of students with disabilities (TODS) licenses highly desirable
  • Five years of teaching in an early childhood education setting required
