DESCRIPTION
Full-time teaching assignment in the Math, Science and Engineering division.
ABOUT AVC:
Antelope Valley College (AVC) serves a region known nationally as “Aerospace Valley” and encompasses approximately 3000 square miles in the Los Angeles and Kern Counties of southern California. The region is home to military bases, federal research labs, and all major aerospace contractors. It also houses many innovative private aerospace companies and advanced manufacturing companies that need a constant infusion of highly trained STEM professionals. AVC’s service area has the highest density of certificated STEM employees (2.5 per 1000) in the country.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
In addition to teaching 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester, full-time faculty are responsible for five office hour per week and preparation time, and are expected to participate in faculty/division meetings
Full-time faculty also participate in curricular planning, student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance contributory to the attainment of the college's mission and strategic goals
Instructors may be assigned a combination of daytime, evening, on-line and/or Saturday classes, as the college is dedicated to the educational success of a diverse student body with diverse needs
Continued professional development through the Faculty Professional Development Program or other sources is expected
Travel between District locations is also expected.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Applicant must meet one of the following requirements)
Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges: Master's in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting, or engineering OR Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND A master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR the equivalent. (NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline maybe classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application).
Antelope Valley College Equivalency: Equivalency not needed, per faculty division
AND a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (Assembly Bill 1725; Education Code 87360).
Desirable Qualifications:
Previous experience in teaching Computer Science courses at a community college setting.
Knowledge of and ability to introduce innovative teaching and learning methods and strategies including undergraduate research and interdisciplinary collaboration to instruction in computer science.
Evidence of and commitment to working as part of a team in departmental divisional and campus wide activities.
