Job Description

POSITION OFFERS A FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENT WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK FULLY REMOTE .

The WordPress Developer reports to the Director of Marketing Technology and Operations within the Division of Marketing joins a team of front/back-end web developers and technologists to help host, secure, and maintain the central web presence of Syracuse University. The WordPress Developer will work in collaboration with the Marketing Technology Director and Digital Development and Strategy Teams to assist with supporting the existing WordPress infrastructure. This role will support the public web presence for Syracuse University, including schools, colleges and business units by evolving the current framework theme for sites to add needed functionality and ensure that it aligns with University brand, digital strategy and digital governance. The Developer will work closely with the Technology team to simplify and automate site deployments utilizing containers and cloud platforms.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience related to software development.
  • 2-3 years experience specific to Wordpress development.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress Platform.
  • Expertise in WordPress Custom Theme Development and Plugin Development.
  • Expertise in managing WordPress from admin panel.
  • Proficiency in PHP and MySQL.
  • Understanding of WordPress architecture and ability to perform database and code optimization for WordPress.
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Ability to perform user support and communicate effectively.
  • The ability to work in a LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP ) development environment.
  • Understanding of Amazon Web Services ( AWS )/cloud deployments and containerization is helpful.
  • Experience with Python is a plus.
Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance of a WordPress theme and framework to be used across University web properties. Functional requirements will follow guidance from core Wagtail CMS as well as input from the campus community.
  • Work with infrastructure team to help automate creation and updating of WordPress installs in on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
  • Provide support to help users troubleshoot and solve issues.
  • Collaborate with the Digital team and campus partners to help identify on-going functional needs and optimizations to framework.
  • Research and share best practices and trends for WordPress theme development.
