Job Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor with experience in creating, teaching, conducting research on, and coordinating Spanish for Specific Purposes courses. This is a full-time, nine-month, renewable, tenure-track position. The start date is August 16, 2023.

Responsibilities of the position include:

Teaching two courses per semester, at the undergraduate and graduate level, primarily in Spanish for Specific Purposes (e.g., Legal, Medical, Translation, etc.), dependent on departmental needs.

Developing additional courses in diverse areas, such as Spanish for Journalism, Psychology, Engineering, Agriculture, Government, Social Justice, etc.

Coordinating the departmental Certificate in Spanish for the Professions.

Maintaining an active research agenda in the field of Spanish for Specific Purposes.

Participating in departmental duties, including committee work, ongoing training in pedagogy, and curriculum development.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Spanish or a closely related field; native or native-like fluency in English and Spanish; demonstrated excellence as a teacher; experience teaching college-level Spanish for Specific Purposes courses; and a strong commitment to working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional desirable qualities include expertise in Translation, the ability to collaborate in the administration of the cross-departmental Certificate in Translation; and interest in directing summer study abroad programs.
