Job Description:

The University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position within the ESOL/Bilingual Education program area in the School of Teaching and Learning. The successful applicant is expected to maintain a robust line of research, teach and advise master's and doctoral students, and contribute to the development and supervision of a growing graduate program.

We seek candidates focused on issues of national and international importance, including language and literacy assessment, instruction, and policy; multilingualism; language, technology, and media; language and literacy teacher education, and; instructional practices across schools, communities, and disciplines.

The successful applicant for the tenure-track position is expected to maintain a systematic line of research; seek external research funding; contribute to instruction of graduate students; and recruit and mentor doctoral students. This 9-month faculty appointment will begin August 2023 and includes the possibility of summer employment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of a tenure-track faculty member at a research-intensive university
  • Pursue external funding
  • Publish in respected refereed scholarly journals
  • Advise, engage, and mentor graduate students in teaching, research, and outreach activities
  • Teach (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Participate in program development
  • Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and the profession

      Expected Salary:

      Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

      Minimum Requirements:
    • Doctorate in TESOL/Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, Language Education or related fields
    • Record of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring students in higher education contexts
    • Demonstrated ability to publish in academic journals and pursue external funding
    • Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience designing and delivering high quality instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats
    • K-12 teaching and/or supervisory experience in the United States
    • Knowledge of US and international landscapes for working with multilingual populations
