Job Description:

The Department of Pharmacodynamics in the College of Pharmacy, the McKnight Brain Institute, and the Center for Integrative Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Florida, Gainesville invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in multiple aspects of histology, microscopy, and quantitative image analysis. The successful applicant will serve as a primary resource for anatomical experiments in the Krause Laboratory of Integrative Systems Neuroscience. The position requires the ability to: work in teams and in partnerships, effectively communicate methods and results related to models of hypertension, obesity, and stress neurobiology; manage multiple concurrent projects; and foster a positive working environment. Candidates are expected to have current knowledge of the latest techniques in histology and microscopy and will serve as a resource to the academic community for disseminating advancements in the field as they occur. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Krause to facilitate, develop, and expand anatomical experiments as needed for several NIH-funded projects.

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field and 2-3 years of experience conducting histological assays, microscopy, and image analysis pertaining to brain and peripheral tissues relevant to cardiometabolic and neuropsychiatric diseases. Must be proficient in optimizing and troubleshooting histological procedures including immunofluorescence, colorimetric assays, FISH, and whole-organ clearing as well as have demonstrated proficiency in large-image and z-stack confocal image acquisition. The candidate will have a strong track record of working collaboratively leading to peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific conferences, and extramural funding applications. This position requires the ability to quickly learn and apply advanced neuroanatomical techniques as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience with training/supervising techs, graduate students, and other personnel preferred. Experience with image quantification and working with large datasets is a plus. Programs utilized include FIJI, QuPath, NIS Elements, and open-source python-based applications. Some programing experience preferred.
