Job Description

Classification Title:

CHIEF & PROF

Job Description:

University of Florida Health (UF Health) seeks a dynamic, distinguished executive to serve as its next Chief Research Information Officer (CRIO) and Professor. This is a singular opportunity to further enhance a rapidly growing and data-intensive academic healthcare system. UF Health is the Southeast's most comprehensive academic health center and part of one of the nation's Top 5 public research universities, unique for its diverse constellation of health colleges, centers and institutes, and hospitals, faculty practices and patient care programs across the State of Florida. Further, the University of Florida ranks first among public universities and second nationwide in U.S. universities that are best at moving new discoveries from the lab and into the real world through research commercialization and STEM graduates.

Reporting to the UF Health Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, the CRIO will serve the entirety of the UF Health enterprise with a focus on enabling basic, translational and clinical research across the various health science colleges and campuses as well as with external partners in both academia and industry. This is a crucial role within information technology and will be accountable for defining and delivering research IT strategy and prioritization as well as developing research IT infrastructure capabilities across the enterprise and creating an engaged community aligned with our mission.

The CRIO will provide leadership around operations and governance of information technology that support research activities across the UF Health campus, including UF Health Shands Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville, and associated practices. They will play a leadership role in strategy and operations around the UF Health Integrated Data Repository (IRB), part of the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and in innovative uses of Epic to support clinical and translational research and the learning health system. The CRIO will also actively support the UF Health Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative, a multi-college network of investigators harnessing AI to benefit science and health. Further, the CRIO will continue to move UF Health towards adoption and widespread use of the OMOP Common Data Model to enable the systematic analysis of disparate observational databases.

The CRIO will collaborate with IT professionals, investigators, faculty, clinicians, administrators, and trainees to create translational research impact through real-world data and clinical information systems. The CRIO will be responsible for addressing the challenges researchers face in a data-intensive healthcare system. The successful candidate must have the ability to foster collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including pediatrics, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, molecular biology, pharmacy, nursing, epidemiology, genetics, behavioral medicine, public health, policy evaluation, and health outcomes research. An academic appointment will be available as part of the opportunity.

The successful candidate will:
▪ Support the Integrated Data Repository, a large-scale database used to collect, store and report on information from across UF Health's clinical and research enterprises. The IDR facilitates new research discoveries and enhances patient care quality and safety activities
▪ Develop a common data access model that enables researchers to easily identify and access data they need in a compliant way
▪ In partnership with other researchers, enhance the successful acquisition of external funding (grant; partnership; sponsored research) with a priority on federal funding with full indirect cost recovery (i.e. NIH, DoD, PCORI)
▪ Collaborate with the CMIO, Director of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Chief Data Scientist and Associate Dean for AI Application & Implementation and other leaders to effectively steward data, translational research and other areas where needed between the research and clinical enterprise
▪ Continually improve the existing research IT infrastructure in order to facilitate better operational efficiency, including implementing products and platforms to facilitate the expansion of existing programs and support new applications, and developing solutions for the research community related to IT services and infrastructure utilization that meet their unique needs
▪ Drive digital transformation and research growth through innovation and the implementation of technology that can positively affect patient care, outcomes and safety
▪ Partner with external informatics and data science initiatives and collaborators as appropriate
▪ Work with a broad range of constituencies to establish a collaborative, integrated, and coherent data science ecosystem and corresponding culture with transparent, streamlined, and regulatory compliant processes for optimal data access and ease of use
▪ Clearly communicate goals, priorities, performance objectives, and areas of improvement to direct teams as well as peers and the broader stakeholder community
