The School of Engineering at the University of Virginia invites applications to join our faculty and collaborate in teaching and innovating our introductory engineering courses. We are transforming our first-year teaching and learning by combining technical and sociotechnical aspects of engineering with an embedded academic advising model into a unique year-long educational experience. We are seeking up to three dedicated members of the faculty to join in this transformation and to teach these unique courses. These are full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure-track positions at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor.

Applicants must hold an advanced degree in engineering or a closely related field of science or mathematics. Candidates should also demonstrate strong interest in using hands-on and evidence-based teaching practices and working in a collaborative instructional environment. Experience with and a strong commitment to academic advising is preferred.

To be considered for Lecturer, applicants must have at least a Master’s degree plus teaching experience. Lecturers will typically be expected to engage in service but will not be required to be engaged in scholarship. To be considered for a position as an Assistant Professor, applicants must have a Ph.D. degree by the start date. Along with teaching, faculty in professorial positions also have service responsibilities and will need to engage in either disciplinary or educational scholarship activities for promotion.

This position is a 3 year academic (9 month) appointment beginning in August, 2023 with the possibility of renewal. The salary will be commensurate with experience and will include fringe benefits.

The University of Virginia offers an attractive level of job security and professional development opportunities for non-tenure-track faculty.
