Summary
The role of the Simulation Technician is to provide direct support for the technical function and safety of simulation lab under the direction of the Director of Simulation and Standardized Patient Program and by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates simulation equipment with the ability to follow scenarios and suggestions of faculty experts and make appropriate adjustments.
- Assists the faculty with human patient simulator labs, including organization and preparation.
- Initiates and communicates the need for repairs and maintains equipment as required.
- Communicates both technical and non-technical matters effectively in person and in writing with a diverse population.
- Assists in maintaining reference materials for simulation equipment, related audio-visual, and computer hardware and software.
- Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies.
- Trains faculty on the operation of simulation equipment as needed.
- Participates in changes in simulation processes to improve the quality of service to faculty and students related to simulation.
- Recommends and implements changes in work processes to improve quality-of-service to faculty and students related to simulation.
- Identifies and implements solutions to problems related to simulation equipment, computer hardware, and software.
Supervisory Responsibilities

- Ability to obtain Simulation Technician Certification within one year of hire.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
- Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
- Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented.
- Knowledge of the University’s mission, purpose, and goals.
- Ability to work and collaborate with a team mentality.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during high-stress situations.
- Ability to follow the chain of command.
- Ability to self-direct to accomplish the goals and daily needs of the LRC .
- Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
- Ability to maintain an inventory check system.
Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Certified Simulation Operational Specialist ( CSOS ) preferred, and certification required within 2 years of hire.
