Position Description Summary/Purpose :
The University of Bridgeport is seeking candidates for the position of Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer will work with subject matter experts to develop the courses to be delivered both online and on campus format with the goal to assist learners in acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and appealing manner. The Instructional Designer will work as part of the UB Online Studies team reporting directly to the Director of Online Studies. This position requires an entry-level working knowledge of instructional design principles and technology.
This is a campus-based, on-ground position; the incumbent must be willing to work at the University of Bridgeport main campus in Bridgeport Connecticut. Please note this position is currently Grant Funded until August 2023 with possible opportunity for continued funding. Flexibility regarding work schedule; some evenings and weekends is required.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

- Development of online courses and instructional multimedia-based materials
- Provide online and in-person faculty training and coaching in instructional design and best practices for online learning
- Creates a culture of widely shared technology-enhanced, effective teaching and learning practices
- Work with subject matter experts to identify target audience’s needs
- Set instructional end goals and assist with identifying content that matches them
- Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product
- Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design.
- Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc).
- Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course.
- Maintain project documentation and course folders.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
- Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
- Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
- Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.

- Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in instructional design, educational technology, or similar relevant field
- Previous working experience in instructional design for at least 3 years
- In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
- Knowledge of learning management systems, primarily Canvas.
- Lesson and curriculum planning skills
- Basic HTML and CSS programming knowledge
- Visual design skills (Adobe Suite, Articulate)
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts
