About the Opportunity

Summary

Manage a portfolio of ~125 select major gift prospects, including alumni, friends, parents, and university leaders, with a focus on raising major gifts at the $100K to $1M+ level. Identify new prospects, establish cultivation and solicitation strategies, and ask for gifts. Work to achieve a high level of engagement from defined constituent group. Build and enhance constituent's relationship with Northeastern, involving them strategically in special programs and events, and connecting them to other university leaders and supporters. Create and lead new initiatives that provide meaningful and substantive engagement opportunities for the College of Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred.
  • The university is seeking a highly entrepreneurial, energetic individual who has 7-10 years of Development experience.
  • Candidates should have a proven track record in soliciting and closing major gifts and be able to demonstrate successful relationship building with institutional leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning for a comprehensive, sustained operation necessary to carry out the vision, goals, and fundraising aspirations of the University.
  • Tested ability to work closely with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other top-level volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (deans, faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative in approach.
  • Ability to travel frequently (including nights and weekends).

    Responsibilities

    80% DEVELOPMENT
    -Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit pool of select major gifts prospects to assess their interest in the College of Engineering and their capacity to make gifts. Develop and manage relationships with these individuals.
    -Build and manage a pool of approximately 125 major gift prospects.
    -Travel as needed to qualify new prospects and to build relationships with existing prospects and donors.
    -Actively solicit prospects at the $100K to $1M+ major gift level.
    -Achieve a high level of engagement and financial support from these special constituents.
    -Employ entrepreneurial approaches to engaging those in portfolio.

    10% MODELING FRONTLINE LEADERSHIP
    -Ensure seamless integration of College of Engineering development efforts with university-wide advancement efforts.
    -Mentor and model best practices to colleagues.
    -Demonstrate accountability to performance measures.
    -Serve the Assistant Dean as a leading source of advice in development strategy and execution.

    10% STRATEGIC PLANNING

    -Establish programming plan that supports and promotes giving among special constituents group, including special events, lectures, meetings, etc.
    -Work with Advancement staff, particularly with the departments of Parent Giving, Donor Relations, Communications and Events to execute these activities.
    -Coordinate efforts with other central and College of Engineering staff, including Planned Giving Officers, as needed, to successfully fulfill responsibilities.
