Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory has an opening for an Electrical Safety Specialist to support the Safety and Health Division. This position will serve as PPPL’s Electrical Safety Field Inspector as part of the Electrical Safety, Equipment Inspection and Code Compliance Program as well as provide inspection of electrical installations, modifications, witness testing, and energization field activities on assigned projects. The position will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and facilitating the PPPL electrical safety program, consistent with Laboratory Environment, Safety, and Health, federal and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

The Electrical Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and conducting a variety of training programs, managing and documenting inspections/ assessments in the field and reviewing policies and procedures. Duties in however are not limited to:

• Organizing, conducting, and documenting Lockout/Tagout Training, Basic Electrical Safety and additional training requirements in accordance with 10 CFR851, OSHA, NFPA 70E and PPPL electrical safety training programs.
• Conducting/ documenting LOTO field audits monthly/ quarterly as well as reviewing subcontractor LOTO programs in accordance with PPPL internal procedure
• Identifying and inspecting electrical equipment supporting PPPLs Electrical Equipment Inspection Program (EEIP)
• Conducting receipt inspections of electrical equipment, components and wire/cables
• Acting as the Princeton Technical Representative (PTR) for electrical PPE, voltage rated gloves, boots, etc.
• Organizing and ensuring proper documentation or Hot Stick Testing, and electrical safety mats.
• Conducting National Electrical Code (NEC) field Inspections for PPPL projects, work packages; construction work, and subcontractors (as applicable).
• Review plans and designs for compliance with National Electrical Code and provide applicable code citations for correction.
• Develop, complete, and file all field pre-concealment, witness testing and final inspection reports as well as non-conformance reports with re-inspections and corresponding correction/conformance reports.
• Conduct follow-up Inspections for PPPL site work.
• Participate in DOE and site management safety walkdowns - electrical coverage.
• Attend pre-job, project and Laboratory meetings as assigned.
• Provide field inspection of electrical equipment installations, modifications, witness testing, and energization field activities for adherence to the OSHA, NEC and PPPL safety procedures.
• Investigate field as-built conditions in accordance with the design documents and inspect construction of electrical equipment, wiring and systems
• Provide coaching and mentoring as well as input/feedback to execute PPPL Electrical Safety Program requirements per NFPA 70E and OSHA standards.
• Disseminate electrical safety information and instructions to promote the objectives of the electrical safety program through effective oral and written communication.
• Maintain currency in applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and codes, and modify PPPL policies and procedures to ensure adherence to the latest requirements.
• Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignment

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors Degree preferred (or equivalent knowledge/training) preferably in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, will consider applicable hands-on related experience commensurate with assigned job responsibilities and duties.
• 10 years’ experience, with 5 years’ in the inspection, testing, and/or operation of electrical systems and components; implementation of NFPA70E electrical safety practices in national laboratory or industrial settings; and performing electrical safety interpretations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must have experience in the following areas: electrical one-line drawings, electrical national consensus codes and standards including NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B and IEEE; OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S, and PPE requirements for arc flash and shock protection as well as Arc Flash and Shock Risk Assessments. Also requires knowledge of performing arc flash studies.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to present ideas and concepts orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner to communicate technical information and interact with individuals with diverse backgrounds and levels of understanding including senior management, engineers, scientists, and trade workers.
• He/she must be a positive driver for change regarding PPPL’s commitment to safety and compliance.
• He/she must have interpersonal skills as demonstrated by performance as a positive driver for change regarding commitment to safety and compliance with solid safety-based reasoning skills

Certificates and Licenses:

• NJ State Electrical Inspectors License or willing to pursue.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be capable of accessing all work areas in order to physically view work practices and conduct inspections.
• This may involve bending, climbing, and kneeling.
• Must be able to periodically lift up to 45 lbs.

Working Conditions:

• Most duties will be in an industrial/ research laboratory environment.
• Occasional work outdoors, in varying weather, to include heat and cold may be required.
• Position is a salary position which requires for Weekend and Night coverage without overtime pay.
• Position is not eligible for Remote or offsite work.
