Communications & Community Engagement Manager

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Team Strategy & Special Projects, this multifaceted position will advance City & Community Engagement (CCE) communications and community engagement strategies by supporting the outreach and programmatic initiatives of the division and ensuring alignment of communication with initiatives and coordination with campus and citywide partners.

Marketing
  • Develop and implement an effective marketing plan in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and other Directors.
  • Manage website and social media content to ensure that it conveys up-to-date information in a practical, engaging manner consistent with CCE's brand.
  • Plan and direct marketing initiatives that specifically increase awareness and use of university resources available to the public.
  • Create and produce, effective branding and marketing materials that promote CCE's programming to area residents, students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to help achieve progressively larger outcomes, including increased, and an improvement in the division and university's reputations.
  • Organize and submit content to local print and digital media outlets on behalf of CCE


Communications
  • Ensure the CCE website remains current and up-to-date; coordinate with other Directors to ensure each team is contributing to the website content and upkeep.
  • Coordinate with Vice President, Assistant Vice President, and other Directors within CCE to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.
  • Be responsible for producing and reviewing internal and external communications, messaging's, and products and developing and maintaining CCE's brand through traditional and social media.
  • Support the creation and management of a CCE-wide email and communications listserv that addresses the needs and functionalities of all CCE programs and initiatives.


CCE Operations
  • Seek out opportunities to promote the work of CCE at campus and community events, including staffing tables or giving presentations (may include, but not limited to: Admissions Preview Days, community block parties, classroom presentations, new student orientations, etc.)
  • Work with appropriate personnel to coordinate specific programs and activities related to community engagement initiatives.
  • Promote and assist with planning large events, as well as support the activity of the Assistant Vice President's neighborhood initiatives.
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on operational business needs.


Experience

A successful applicant should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to write clearly, and the ability to articulate City & Community Engagement' overall programming initiatives.

Required skills
  • Exceptional writing/editing skills including development and copy-editing, along with the ability to shape and improve content for multiple target audiences
  • Ability to think critically and develop strategic messaging, including experience writing press materials and developing media strategies
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills, including managing multiple projects at once
  • Understanding of branding and the development of an organizational voice
  • Ability to interact with, and effectively communicate with external community members, faculty, staff, students, and public/governmental representatives
  • Ability to speak publicly in front of small and large audiences
  • Ability to exercise initiative and think creatively and independently
  • Ability to collaborate and work cohesively within a team
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities


Preferred skills and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or English. Master's degree preferred. Advanced knowledge of graphic and web design software is advantageous.
  • Ability to research and develop new content and pragmatically identify opportunities that have substantial potential positive impacts on the works of CCE
  • Experience with institutions of higher education and demonstrated the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective problem-resolution strategies
  • Ability to establish relationships with internal and external media sources to promote and assist with coverage of newsworthy stories related to City & Community Engagement
