The Division of Social Sciences at Southwestern College is seeking an assistant professor for a tenure track opening in Criminal Justice. Teaching responsibilities include offering a robust curriculum in Criminal Justice for majors and minors, as well as teaching courses within the general education curriculum. Teaching assignments could include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that support and complement current departmental offerings. Expectations also include advising, mentoring, and assisting with undergraduate research projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Customary teaching load is 4 courses per semester (12 semester hours) in undergraduate courses. 
  • Departmental duties include advising students majoring and minoring in Criminal Justice.
  • Other duties include participating in department and campus-wide committees, collaborating with faculty in the social science division, and service to the campus and community.
  • Maintain professional currency in field by participating in field-relevant conferences, professional development, and creative activities.

Qualifications

  • Terminal Degree (Ph. D. preferred) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or some closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and excellence.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is recommended.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
