Position

Purdue University’s College of Agriculture is seeking a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor (12-month, non-tenure track) in online education. The purpose of the position is to help strategically expand the College of Agriculture’s online portfolio in Digital Agriculture, including the use of big data, artificial intelligence, digital sensors, data analytics, and other technological innovations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both data-driven agriculture and online education using best-practice pedagogy.

Responsibilities

Clinical Faculty have a primary responsibility to assist in meeting the programmatic need for clinical services, instruction, engagement and/or the professional development of students. The clinical faculty member will develop and teach primarily asynchronous, online, data-driven, agriculture courses, which will be taught individually and as part of a team. The Data in Agriculture online portfolio will include graduate, undergraduate, and non-credit professional development courses. Potential students include Purdue West Lafayette residential students, non-residential students, and corporate clients (B2B). This position will work closely with Ag Online and Purdue University Online teams (course production, student acquisition, student experience, external partnerships, etc.), as well as College of Agriculture faculty. The person in this position is expected to build a sustainable model for funding this position through program revenue and grants over time.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in data science, agriculture, computer science, engineering, education, or closely related fields.
• Experience in primarily asynchronous, online, course development and demonstrated effective teaching using best-practice online pedagogy.
• Knowledge of and experience with big or complex data, artificial intelligence, digital sensors, data analytics, or other technological innovations.
• Knowledge of and experience with agricultural or natural sciences.

Location

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Partial remote work may be negotiated if on-campus presence will occur on a regular basis. 

Department

Depending on background and interest, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the College of Agriculture as a clinical faculty member in one of eleven departments, including the departments of: Agricultural & Biological Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication, Agronomy, Animal Sciences, Biochemistry, Botany & Plant Pathology, Entomology, Food Science, Forestry & Natural Resources, or Horticulture & Landscape Architecture.

Appointment and Salary

Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (12-month, non-tenure track) faculty appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. While this program is fully funded initially, the goal is for the position to fund itself through grants and data-driven agriculture online program revenue over time.
