Description:
The Department of Creative Arts Therapy at Pratt Institute seeks exceptional applicants for the position of Assistant Chair. In coordination with the Chair, the Assistant Chair will contribute to the daily operations of the Creative Arts Therapy department as well as with the development, implementation, and management of the departmental academic affairs for all degree programs in Art Therapy and Dance/Movement Therapy to support and improve the educational life of students, faculty, and staff.

The Assistant Chair will coordinate the department's graduate programs in Art Therapy and be responsible for all aspects of recruitment, admissions, scheduling, and advisement for all Art Therapy students in both the Academic Year and Low Residency Programs. The Assistant Chair is a key member of the collaborative administrative team and participates in strategic decision-making to set, plan, and operationalize the department's mission as a whole.

The Creative Arts Therapy Department was founded by Arthur Robbins and was one of the first of its kind to introduce art therapy training in the United States. Housed in the School of Art, the department offers two graduate degrees: an M.P.S. in Art Therapy & Creativity Development and an M.S. in Dance/Movement Therapy, as well as low residency versions of these programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Assistant Chair include:

• In collaboration with the Chair, provide academic leadership, share messaging across the department, represent the department, and develop department budgets, curricula, and other educational programs, activities, and collaborations.
  
  
• Guide / participate in program assessment activities, as well as programmatic reviews and accreditation surveys to ensure compliance with accrediting bodies.
  
  
• Assist Chair in planning course schedules, curricular modifications, content delivery, and faculty assignments.
  
  
• Assist Chair with recruitment, selection, mentorship, and retention of faculty and staff to support their professional development and engagement with students in the classroom.
  
  
• Oversee and manage the graduate Art Therapy admissions process, including reviewing application materials, conducting interviews, preparing letters of acceptance / waitlist / rejection, and determining scholarships.
  
  
• Advise and register all graduate Art Therapy students in both the Academic Year and Low Residency Programs.
  
  
• Monitor and evaluate student academic / clinical training progress, taking appropriate steps to manage student issues as they arise and maintain records through program completion.
  
  
• Provide guidance and oversight for Art Therapy Internship Coordinator(s), approving all AT internship sites, in accordance with AATA, ACATE, NYSED and institutional standards, developing relationships with internship facilities, and liaising with on-site supervisors, as needed.
  
  
• Integrate diversity and related principles into all aspects of staff engagement as appropriate, and foster development of a positive working environment for diversity and inclusion.
  
  
• Perform all other related activities, as required.
  
  Salary Range: $75K - $81K
  
  
  Qualifications:
  Education: Candidates must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in Art Therapy

  Experience:
  
  · Licensure as Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) required.
  
  · Registry / Board Certification as Art Therapist (ATR-BC) minimum required.
  
  · Minimum of five - seven years teaching experience (part time or full time) in a Graduate Art Therapy Program.
  
  · Prior administrative experience in an academic or clinical setting required.
