Job Details
The Tianjin Juilliard School (TJS) is the first and only branch campus of The Juilliard School in New York and represents a broad initiative to expand the schools’ global positions as leaders in classical music training and cultural exchange. Approved by the Ministry of Education in China, TJS welcomed its first class of pre-college students in the 2019 academic year, and the graduate class in Fall 2020. By equipping its musicians with core educational values and cultivating experiences, TJS, along with its dedicated world-class faculty, intends to take on the challenge of guiding aspiring artists on the path to achieving their full potential not only as musicians, but also as global ambassadors. Through a combination of highly selective graduate and pre-college programs and inspiring performances in a state-of-the-art facility, TJS has quickly become educational and cultural destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities:
- Teach one or more core courses and electives in both the Graduate Studies Program and Pre-College curricula
- Teach in a secondary area as qualified
- Participate in department meetings and departmental/school-wide committees
- Participate in annual assessment of new students in the summer
Minimum Qualifications:
- Fluency in English (As the graduate program at TJS is accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education, all instruction is conducted in English)
- Ph.D. in music theory or a DMA (with substantive training in music theory and analysis)
- Demonstrated success in college-level teaching
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: scholarship, music history, composition, and performance, and at least one area of special interest so that the applicant would be able to teach electives at the graduate levels; experience in teaching composition is strongly preferred
- Interested in experiencing Chinese culture and open to the experience of working with Juilliard’s first branch campus
- Entrepreneurial minded and comfortable with the challenges associated with a new venture
