The University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for a Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. This is a full-time, exempt staff position. The Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics provides innovative leadership and direction for all competitive intercollegiate sports programs. The Vice President is responsible for assuring all programs embody the balance of the student-athlete experience, preparing students to excel in their post-graduate careers by instilling values of academic and sports excellence, teamwork, and strong character.

In addition to the University’s intercollegiate sports programs, the Vice President oversees the University Club Sports Programs, athletics development efforts and athletics constituency relations, athletic business operations; facility operation, maintenance, and planning; University, NCAA, and conference compliance; budgeting preparation and management; and personnel selection, supervision, and evaluation.

Current intercollegiate sports include:
  • Men’s Football, Baseball, and Wrestling
  • Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Cross-Country, Golf, Swimming/Diving, Indoor/Outdoor Track, and Field, Lacrosse, Soccer, and Tennis
  • Women’s Softball and Volleyball

Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership, management, administration and coordination of all activities, programs, and services in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics with a demonstrated commitment to supporting the institution’s mission and strategic priorities
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, supervise and evaluate coaches and other athletic department staff in accordance with all applicable university policies
  • Take action to ensure effective performance by all coaches and staff
  • Research, innovate, develop, and sustain a revenue stream capable of augmenting operating budgets to support NCAA Division II programs, including scholarships, program enhancement, travel-related expenses, equipment and supplies, and facilities maintenance/augmentation
  • Oversee and play an active role in fundraising and development efforts. Develop innovative efforts for athletic fundraising with the department’s Greyhound Club and Office of Advancement
  • Provide oversight in the planning, management, and expenditure of all general, revenue, and restricted accounts in accordance with all applicable rules, University policies, and laws
  • Ensure that all athletic events and activities are conducted and implemented in accordance with relevant federal laws (including Title IX), NCAA guidelines, conference regulations, and University policies and in a manner, which minimizes risk to student safety and liability to the institution while participating in any authorized intercollegiate athletic event
  • Supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of University initiatives reflecting model practices that support student-athletes academic and personal development
  • Proactively represent the University in establishing, maintaining, and nurturing collegial relationships with both internal and external constituents, including but not limited to other institutions of higher education in the institution’s conference, regional/national athletic organizations and associations, local community organizations, and civic groups
  • Actively innovate, monitor, advise, recommend, and report all strategic and reputational matters and opportunities to the University President and holds a position on the President's Cabinet
  • Evaluate all aspects of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on a routine basis and make/implement changes for improvement
  • Prepare, analyze, estimate, and complete reports in response to requests from the University, conference, NCAA, and governmental authorities
  • Establish, lead, and maintain a departmental long-range strategic plan and provide the specific objectives to accomplish the plan
  • Represent the University and athletics as a speaker at a local club, school, or organization functions, and events
  • Initiate and complete the NCAA Self-Study as appropriate
  • Serve on various on and off-campus committees
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 5 years of significant, effective, and successful athletics leadership experience is expected,
  • Great communication skills and other interpersonal qualities necessary to work effectively with administrative colleagues, coaches, faculty, and student-athletes
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean or acceptable driving record
