Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Budget Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day processing of financial and personnel information in the College’s budget system. The Analyst also assists with financial analysis, budget creation and financial projections as well as the provision of general customer service for the Budget Office.

Responsibilities:
  • Process approved Employee Action Forms in the budgeting system.

  • Process approved Budget Transfer Forms in the budgeting system.

  • Assist with data input into the budgeting system to facilitate budget creation and/or operating projections.

  • Provide assistance with ad hoc analyses and create customized reports in excel with data extracted from Jenzabar One and Questica systems.

  • Periodically, audit the employee roster in the budgeting system against the payroll system, and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Produce budget and operating reports from the budgeting system, as requested. Analyze and summarize budget variances for discussion with the Sr. Budget Analyst and the Vice President of Financial Planning.

  • Assist the Sr. Budget Analyst in setting up training sessions and drafting training materials for budgeting module users.

  • Review grant proposal budgets with Sr. Analyst to ensure funds adequately budgeted for course releases, chargebacks and F&A cost allowance.

  • Assist Sr. Analyst and VPFP in preparing for meetings with unit-based managers and budget officers for the annual budgeting and periodic projection process cycle.

  • Assist Sr. Analyst in reviewing correct classification of expenses in J1g to ensure that actual results are properly recorded where budgeted.

  • Monitor the Budget Office email account, responding to inquiries and requests.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or another quantitative field.

  • Preference for an advanced degree in a relevant field.

  • Must understand basic accounting and budgeting principles.

  • Must be able to comfortably navigate a budget database and ERP system.

  • Must have advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

  • Must have a customer service mind-set.

  • Must have strong attention to detail.

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong preference for someone with experience in a budgeting office.

  • Preference for experience in a complex higher education environment.
