A major portion of this position will involve administrative work to support research development and grants submission for Departmental and School of Medicine faculty.  To that end, a major set of responsibilities will include: Identifying funding opportunities for large grants from NIH and other Federal agencies and distribution to senior faculty-led teams; monitoring Advisory Committee meetings at all Institutes at NIH for future research topic trends; working with faculty teams to coordinate and oversee submission of P, U and other complex grant applications; curating, disseminating and managing limited submission funding opportunities; assisting Department/Center/Institute staff to coordinate meetings for thematic interest group retreats and reporting on initial and subsequent progress; generating complex funding/award reports for the Dean, Dean’s Office staff, and specified Departments/Centers/Institutes, as requested; performing  detailed financial analyses of research support to all Academic Units within SOM; functioning as pre-award approver of applications submitted through KUALI Research platform; administratively supporting the SOM Quality Management Systems Office.

The recruit will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Department as requested by the Chair. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching in the area of neuroscience and brain development, serving on Departmental Committees, supporting junior faculty and trainees with the development of their research programs, identifying opportunities for inter-departmental and cross-campus collaborations, and liaising with appropriate SOM and Campus offices to support departmental faculty in the areas of grants administration and research compliance.

Qualifications: 

Applicant must have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field with at least one year of postdoctoral experience in preclinical or translational research. Animal research experience and familiarity with Federal and Institutional regulations covering animal research is highly preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience in pre-award grants administration is essential. Familiarity with Federal research funding mechanisms, NIH application requirements and reporting mechanisms preferred. Must be proficient in Excel and other MS software.
