Greensboro College seeks an innovative and flexible individual to lead its initiatives in internationalization across multiple contexts. Areas of focus are developing new international partnerships, promoting international student enrollment, maintaining current projects, developing programs for international students on the Greensboro College campus, and working with staff and faculty to ensure international students receive the support and mentorship they need.
While the position reports directly to the VPAA and Provost, the ideal candidate will be able to work well independently and with broader constituencies. The individual who fills this role will be a forward-facing representative of Greensboro College locally, nationally, and internationally. Thus, professionalism, integrity, and excellence in communication is paramount to the successful completion of job responsibilities. Most work is done from the college campus, but occasional travel will be required. Meetings with international partners often occurs across time zones, so flexibility in scheduling is also a must.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build relationships with an entrepreneurial spirit that expand the international reach of the college, both by increasing the number of its international students and by fostering opportunities for study abroad
- Maintain healthy relationships with current and future international partners, including coordination of the recruiting and hiring of faculty for programs as needed, troubleshooting difficulties for faculty and students, and providing information and support for student and faculty travel across borders
- Facilitate development and implementation of campus policies and procedures for international students
- Act as central point-of-contact for international students on campus
- Coordinate faculty and staff training sessions for the benefit of international students
- Coordinate and facilitate student/faculty agreements with selected foreign colleges and universities
- Establish and maintain professional networks with related local, state, national, and international organizations and agencies for the benefit of the College
- Recommend internal and external marketing and program information to the Director of Marketing
- Collaborate with representatives from foreign colleges, universities, and organizations for special projects or programs
- Coordinate eventual searches for international programs personnel, recommend hiring personnel, supervise, train, and evaluate eventual International Program staff
- Formally assess International Studies Program as required
- Complete all necessary State Department/Homeland Security and other governmental paperwork required for student visas; guide/counsel international students on how to complete paperwork to enter the United States and hold student visas
- Coordinate all housing and food service for international students during college breaks and holidays
- Other duties as assigned and/or necessary
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in international relations or related field with experience in similar position preferred
- Record of international study/travel preferred
- Proficient knowledge of current issues and best practices related to international students and appropriate programming for international students
- Basic software knowledge
- Proven record of effective management and leadership of an academic unit
- The flexibility and energy to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Proficient interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy, when working with individuals from different cultures
- Effective organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through for the sake of manifest deliverables
- Ability to facilitate articulation agreements with international colleges and universities
- Ability to collaborate and network with representatives from foreign educational institutions and organizations
- Ability to make professional public presentations regarding the College’s International Program
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships
