Job Details
The Nazareth College School of Music is seeking a dynamic colleague with a vision for enthusiastic artistic leadership of our orchestra program. The Director of Orchestras and String Studies is a 9-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music, and includes a salary commensurate with expertise, experience, and qualifications, beginning in August 2023.
Primary responsibilities include conducting the Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, coordinating the string area, coaching chamber music, teaching Instrumental Conducting: Strings, and String Pedagogy and Techniques, with additional coursework assigned based on expertise and load availability. Additional courses could include: applied conducting, conducting class, and student teacher supervision.
Applicants with additional experience and expertise in string music education and culturally relevant pedagogy are especially sought for this position. This individual will join colleagues at Nazareth College who value collaboration, innovation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in their shared work of preparing musicians and music education candidates. Special consideration will be given to applicants with at least three (3) years of prior collegiate experience and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
