Summary:

The General Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day building operations of the STEM building. They will be responsible for supervising receiving of all supplies delivered to the building, implementing and daily monitoring of environmental health and safety protocols especially concerning hazardous and non-hazardous materials, and the containment, consolidation, and disposition of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Duties & Responsibilities

The General Operations Manager will supervise part-time employees to assist with receiving of chemicals, supplies, and other items related to courses taught in the building, interact with physical plant, campus police, lab coat external vendor, HASTech (CHS Technology Services), Media Support Services, staff, faculty, and graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants from Departments of Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology, and additional departments or schools as needed. They will coordinate key control and door access for teaching assistants and lab coordinators and be considered the inventory manager (fixed assets). Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent in this position is required to respond to emergencies and questions that arise during all hours of the day and evening, and if necessary, be on-site no matter the time.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform a variety of complex administrative tasks associated with building operations and to effectively communicate issues or problems, both orally and in writing, to appropriate constituents.
  • Position requires experience in safety protocols concerning hazardous and non-hazardous materials, how to contain, consolidate and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, building maintenance or related fields and experience with safety protocols in physical and life science teaching laboratory spaces.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and questions, by phone or in person, evenings and weekends required.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels within the College of Humanities & Sciences and across the University.
  • Works with integrity and high ethical standards.
  • Will consider high school diploma or G.E.D. with extensive experience in related fields of Chemical Safety and/or Chemical Training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant coursework, certificate(s), or degree in related fields preferred.
  • Previous years in similar positions with a University.
