The Carnegie Mellon University Washington Semester Program (CMU/WSP) provides a semester-long opportunity in which CMU students live, intern, and study in Washington, DC, learning about the most pressing policy issues of the day through political science, international affairs, and policy coursework and related internships.
The CMU/WSP Program Manager has primary responsibilities in supporting the academic, personal, and professional development of students participating in the program. The Program Manager is responsible for the day-to-day CMU/WSP management including but not limited to internship/job placement, hosting academic courses in the CMU/WSP classroom, and student affairs issues. This will involve networking and program outreach, internship site visits, student recruitment, and alumni involvement.
The program currently hosts 15-20 undergraduate students from all CMU colleges and majors during the fall and spring semesters. We are exploring the expansion of the CMU/WSP to include summer program opportunities. The Program Manager will work closely with staff on the CMU-Pittsburgh campus and CMU-Qatar campus to recruit for the CMU/WSP.
The Program Manager will work with students on internship placement (individualized internship search strategy planning; development of materials; identification of open and relevant positions; mock interviews). The position will be responsible for program outreach and external internship development in the Washington, DC, area. Activities will include relationship development, site visits, and representing the CMU/WSP at DC consortium and networking events.
In addition, the Program Manager will support efforts for internship/entry-level job placement and professional development programming for students. These opportunities include a weekly internship and entry-level job newsletters, individual meetings with students, workshop development, and coordination of alumni networking events with the support of other staff members.
The Program Manager will also support the summer and semester Friedman Fellowship programs, recruiting for the Friedman Fellowship program, and assisting selected students with internship placement for the summer. Maintaining relationships with the fellowship donor and developing comprehensive program summaries is also required.
