Required Qualifications:
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited university
  • At least two years post-master's experience in social work practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with children, youth and families and a minimum of two years' experience as a social worker in school settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse client populations with a specific focus on Latinx and African-American populations
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership and program development capabilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse university student population
  • Pupil Personnel Service (PPS) Credential with specializations in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance Services

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fluency in writing, reading, and speaking Spanish
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) active license
  • Demonstrated training experience in school social work practice at the elementary, and /or secondary educational levels
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate college level
  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions and organize parent partnerships with educational institutions
  • Knowledge of community resources supporting families and children in the greater Long Beach area
  • Demonstrated experience working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties:
  • Provide field instruction to Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students assigned to the collaborative Strengthening Youth Resilience (SYR) program in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD).
  • Ensure BASW and MSW intern development and progression in alignment with the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) core competencies and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing's Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) state standards for the School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance Services specializations/credential.
  • Provide site-based supervision, interventions, and consultation at LBUSD's schools for educators working directly with youth and their families affected by anxiety and depression and its many manifestations.
  • Collaborate with school-based support personnel and develop, implement, and/or co-lead Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities in specific LBUSD schools.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative communication with key stakeholders from LBUSD, the Mental Health Association of Los Angeles (MHALA), and the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), including the School of Social Work.

Our curriculum prepares graduate students in three specialization areas: child and family well-being, integrated health, and adulthood and aging.

The School engages in collaborative, community-based research that enhances the well-being of vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities. It also hopes to improve service delivery systems and contribute to social work knowledge. Our School also provides service to the community and the profession through the development of ongoing relationships with various groups. Those include grassroots community leaders, community-based non-profit organizations, governmental organizations, and foundations.
