Physics, Earth Science & Space Systems at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track position as an Assistant Professor, Physics. The anticipated start date is January 3, 2022.

Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide-range of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. The Department of Physics, Earth Science, & Space Systems Engineering consists of six physics faculty, two science education faculty, and four faculty in geoscience. Besides undergraduate degrees in physics and geology, we offer special tracks in engineering physics, astrophysics, computational physics, and teaching. The department also offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in space systems engineering. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Teaches 24 credit hours (annually) of undergraduate courses in Physics, including algebra- based and calculus-based first year physics and associated labs, as well as upper level courses such as modern physics, electronics, dynamics, engineering thermodynamics, engineering statics, quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism, experimental physics, and computational physics. Additional duties include advising students, participating in departmental, college, and university service, and developing a modest research agenda involving undergraduates.

REQUIREMENTS:  Doctorate in Physics with a research specialization in physics education or applied experimental physics in one of the following areas: engineering physics, environmental physics, solid state/condensed matter, biophysics/biomedical physics, or optics. The successful candidate is expected to conduct scholarly research in the discipline and to seek external funding for their scholarly endeavors. Scholarly endeavors should lead to state, national, and international meeting presentations and publications in peer-reviews journals. The successful candidate will also participate in modernizing the curriculum to include new areas of study and the integration of computation into the physics curriculum.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Teaching experience and published research are desirable.
