The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for its Martha Beach Endowed Chair in Art. The position is three-year limited-term with possible 2-year reappointment. The ideal candidate will have a strong and deeply integrated background in visual arts and Interactive Media Design (graphic design, illustration, user interface design, gaming, and/or other multimedia components). Applicants should be prepared to teach introductory and advanced courses in one or more of these areas while demonstrating a dedication to creative scholarship and research. The University of North Carolina Pembroke Art Department is particularly interested in faculty members whose studio practice engages with the local culture and community. The successful applicant will begin Fall 2023. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications or experience.
 

Qualifications: terminal degree specializing in graphic design, interactive design, illustration, character design, gaming or a related field (MFA preferred); distinguished record of creative work and/or appropriate research, or equivalent professional experience appropriate for the rank of full professor; demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and communities. Preferably a well-documented career of significant creative accomplishments of national and international significance; teaching experience at the college level, and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations desired.
 

Responsibilities: Teach two courses each semester and participate in a community and regional outreach program as part of the mission of the University and Department. Participate in professional and departmental activities, including creative scholarship and service. Community outreach/service required for positive performance evaluations.

The Art Department includes 8 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 1 Visiting Martha Beach Endowed Chair, 15 adjuncts, and 1 studio technician. The university is accredited by SACSCOC, NCATE, and NASAD. Our studio areas include Ceramics, Digital Arts, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture. We offer a B.A. in Art degree with three separate tracks: Studio, Art Education (K-12) Licensure, and Art History; minors in Studio, Media Integration Studies, and Art History;as well as MAT degrees in Art Education.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  MFA specializing in graphic design, interactive design, illustration, character design, gaming or a related field. Candidates should possess comprehensive and current knowledge in the fields of interactive media design, as well as creative activities and research abilities related broadly to the fields of emerging media technologies and/or interactive media design.

Management Preferences:  Preferably a well-documented career of significant creative accomplishments of national and international significance; teaching experience at the college level, and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations desired.
