Copywriter



Position Summary

This role is part of the Marketing and Communications team within the Enrollment division and will report to the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications. The team goals are to consistently communicate the brand and identity of Rice University and its seven undergraduate schools to prospective students, parents and school educators and to accurately and persuasively represent and market the university and its undergraduate academic programs to prospective students and others.

The team works to ensure that the enrollment division uses the most contemporary and effective approaches to reach prospective students and coordinates innovative communications initiatives through a variety of media including print, web, email, and social. The Copywriter works to develop copy across a wide variety of digital channels including email, blogs, social media, website and applications.

The Copywriter position is responsible for using the brand voice, the media channel context and the marketing/business need to develop a professional, creative and unique copy that engages and drives actions for key audiences.

The possibility of a hybrid work environment may be considered.

Essential Functions
  • Creates and edits drafts of email campaigns, print and digital marketing collateral, newsletters, web pages and/or other types of materials
  • Researches and writes copy for informational and promotional projects to support the initiatives and objectives of the enrollment department
  • Manages and writes content for Rice Admission Blog
  • Edits copy for accuracy, effectiveness and style
  • Writes copy or re-purposes content for the web and social media
  • Creates messages and copy for branding purposes
  • Presents concepts both internally and externally to clients
  • Communicates ideas in written and verbal form
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, or related field

  • 1 year of experience in Editing or Journalism
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of multiple media formats
  • Basic knowledge of AP style
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
Preferences
  • 3 or more years of experience developing copy for digital channels
  • An eye for detail
  • Ability to spot errors in and edit your own products
