Annual Salary: $52,000

Position Summary
The Hernández Sánchez Research Group of the Department of Chemistry at Rice University is seeking two Postdoctoral Research Associates. One of the position’s objectives will be to work in the synthesis of supramolecular scaffolds towards nanotube construction. This research falls under the field of contorted aromatics broadly defined. The second associate will work in the synthesis of molecular anion receptors.

Essential Functions
• Synthesize, characterize, and analyze reaction protocols
• Assists with proposal development to obtain research funding
• Mentors, oversees, and/or trains junior research team members
• Publishes and presents research findings
• Supports collaborations across institutions or disciplines
• Designs and implements research protocols; adapts new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions / Information
• The postdoc associate will be responsible of supervisory responsibilities as needed in the group extending to graduate and undergraduate students.
• The postdoc will be provided with the opportunity to teach a lecture or two within the PI’s courses as the postdoc see it fit. This is not mandatory but rather an opportunity to the associate to strengthen his/her resume for future job applications.

Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications Requirements
• Doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical biology, chemical physics, chemical engineering, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry.

• No substitutions for education allowed.

Skills Required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as oral presentation skills
• Organization and time management skills
• Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline
• Writes scholarly papers based on ongoing research and submits them to journals for publication
• Able to work in a collaborative environment
• Able to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction
